Expert Prompts for the Local Service Industry: a ChatGPT Prompt Library for Business Owners

Prompt: Hey GPT, I need your help writing an introductory paragraph to use on a blog post that will provide helpful ChatGPT prompts to business owners specializing in the local service industry.  The blog will include a list of helpful prompt starters, and the paragraph you are writing should outline how this list will grow and become more helpful over time.

Answer: As a business owner in the local service industry, it can be challenging to keep up with the demands of running a successful business. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of helpful ChatGPT prompts to assist you in managing your day-to-day operations. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive resource that will continue to grow and evolve, addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by business owners in the local service industry. Whether you’re looking to improve customer service, streamline your operations, or explore new growth opportunities, our prompts will help you navigate the ever-changing landscape of the local service industry. So, let’s get started on this journey together, and discover the tools and strategies you need to succeed in your business.

People don’t quite talk like that, do they?  Even now, with 100 trillion parameters (a fancy word for the number of rules built into AI), GPT-4 sounds a bit like a robot giving a perfectly adequate answer rather than a revolutionary tool.  It seems to lack a certain emotion or human context to the question. Or maybe that’s just what this human writer/editor/prompt engineer hopes—in an effort to keep their job.

It’s not perfect. In fact, it’s pretty average, but that’s the point. When crafting a prompt, you must keep in mind that unless your request only has one answer, AI’s response will be an amalgamation of all the good and the bad answers provided. It carefully weighs the importance of every word in your prompt to give an answer that is the most likely to be accurate.

Truthfully, you want to use AI as a tool for inspiration.

As the prompt engineer, you must consider your request when writing and editing the response. Did you provide enough information, context, and direction for AI to consider? Where do you need to expand? What sources or proof can you provide to help support your request?

These are things that we consider and play with every day. In fact, we’ve decided to start a running list of helpful prompts and suggestions for the industries and clients we represent. If any of these are even remotely helpful to your business, feel free to message us for more suggestions.

GPT is only as good as the prompt provided.

I recorded a quick video for you guys on how + where to sign up and start your first conversation. I used a simple prompt idea of having it create an HVAC tune-up checklist, but you can literally ask it anything.

Prompt Used: I need you to act as an operations manager for an HVAC company.  We are running a specific offer for a $79 tune-up. I need you to create a 30-point checklist of services we provide to market that tune up to homeowners so they feel they are getting the most bang for their buck, without me, the business owner, losing money because of the services provided.

Want to practice writing good prompts? Pick a topic or argument, then ask AI to take a position either for or against it.  Engage in a back-and-forth dialogue, and ask for help and feedback in adjusting your points and counterpoints.  You’ll also get the added bonus of crafting more persuasive arguments and improving your critical thinking skills.
